Purchasing a space

Burial spaces in the Casparis sections and niches in the columbarium are sold by the lodge's Cemetery Committee. Anyone may buy; a deed or certificate is issued for every sale.

Two ways to rest here

Space or niche

A burial space is a traditional grave in Casparis Sections A, B, or C, sized for one casket burial or up to two cremation burials. Adjoining spaces can be bought together as a family lot. Each space is numbered on the 2008 recorded plats.

A columbarium niche holds one urn (single) or two (companion) behind an engraved granite cover in the new columbarium. See the columbarium page for how it works.

The historic section is full; no spaces are available there. The plats page lists the spaces currently open in the Casparis and Watson sections.

The steps

  1. 1Send the inquiry on this page or call (512) 963-0136. If you have a particular space in mind, give its section and number from the plats page; for a niche, say single or companion.
  2. 2The committee confirms the space or niche is open and that the sale meets the Conditions and Restrictions, then sends the plat and the current fees ($2,000 per grave space, $1,500 for current Blanco County residents, plus a refundable $500 headstone deposit). It will walk the ground with you if you wish.
  3. 3Once the committee has approved the sale, you sign the purchase agreement, which incorporates the Conditions and Restrictions.
  4. 4Pay as the committee directs with your agreement: by check payable to Johnson City Lodge No. 561, mailed to PO Box 631, Johnson City, TX 78636, or by the secure online payment link the committee sends. Time payments can be arranged for family lots.
  5. 5The lodge records the sale and mails your deed or certificate. Keep it with your important papers and tell your family where it is.

Approval comes first

A space or niche is not reserved or conveyed by payment alone. The Cemetery Committee approves every sale before any payment is accepted, and a payment received before approval is returned. This keeps a family from paying for a space that is already spoken for, and it is why the cemetery does not sell spaces by online checkout.

At the time of need

If a death has occurred, call the lodge at (512) 963-0136 and have the funeral home call as well. We can confirm a family's existing space from the deed book, or sell a space the same day, and will mark the grave for the vault company. Nothing else is required of the family.

Already own a lot?

Families sometimes hold deeds from decades ago and are unsure how many spaces remain. Ask; the lodge will check the plat and the interment record at no charge.

Request a space or niche

Tell us whether you are interested in a burial space or a niche, and whether it is for future need or a current one. If you have a space or niche in mind, give its section and number from the plats page. The Cemetery Committee will confirm it is open and reply with the plat, the fees, and the purchase agreement. Nothing is owed until the committee has approved the sale.
