Plats

The maps of the ground

Every grave here is a numbered space on a recorded plat. These are the plats, from the 1894 original to the 2008 surveys, and how to read a plot number.

How to read a plot number

A plot number in the burial index reads block, lot, space. C13-3 is Block C, Lot 13, Space 3 in the historic section: Cicero Rufus Perry. In the newer sections the block letters are doubled: CA6-5 is Casparis Section A, lot CA-6, space 5; DC5-6 is Watson Section lot DC-5, space 6. Section C uses lot numbers with lettered spaces, so 52-B is lot 52, space B.

The historic section's blocks run in four rows of four, A through P, with Block A at the southeast corner nearest the entrance. A lot in the historic section is a family lot of up to eight spaces; a lot in the Casparis A and Watson sections holds six, and a lot in Section C holds four.

The surveyor's note on every 2008 sheet applies to all of these: the lot lines are drawn from the lodge's records and measurements on the ground, and “this map does not reflect actual burials.” Where a stone and the plat disagree, the stone wins and the record is corrected.

Sections

  • Historic — the 1894 plat, blocks A–P, north of the entry lane. Full.
  • Casparis A — lots CA–CF, south of the historic section around the flagpole.
  • Casparis B — along the west fence; reserved for the columbarium. Spaces there are not sold.
  • Casparis C — lots 34–90 along the drive toward Spur 356.
  • Watson — lots DA–DD, between Casparis A and the drive.

The tract is a five-sided field of about ten and a half acres between Vista Arroyo on the north and east, Nugent Avenue on the southeast, the Little League fields on the south, and school district land on the west. You enter at the southeast corner, under the arch, and the drive runs northwest along the fence to the historic section, past the state marker. A loop encloses Casparis A and the Watson Section; a longer lane and an outer loop enclose the open ground on the east half of the tract.

The lodge's new hall will stand on that open ground at the front of the property, its long side parallel to Nugent Avenue. The footprint on the map is a placeholder until the site plan is recorded.

The lot-by-lot surveys of each section (Casparis A, B, and C and Watson, 2008) are held by the Cemetery Committee and are used to locate a grave or a space for sale; ask when you inquire and the committee will send the sheet you need.
